I was getting ready for work this morning and listening to Good Morning America, when I heard John Edwards say “Make work pay” when asked about what he would do about poverty in America. Not only did my jaw drop at such a stupid response, but the mascara fell leaving a black streak on my nose. Gee, thanks John!
Now I’m no economic genius, but I can certainly see there are some major flaws with this kind of thinking. So to end poverty, we just all need to go to our companines, bosses, whoever and tell them we need more money to pay our bills and have the lifestyle that we want. Yes, that will really work. And here I was waiting for a response related to, maybe education or welfare reform or even new added goverment programs (which is what I really expected to hear). And no, what I heard was “just make work pay”. Well John, if you do that, you can say goodbye to all our jobs, as most companies would be forced to close the doors if they were expected to provide salaries/wages to support a specific lifestyle – or one mandated by the federal government.
Anyway, while my morning routine was disrupted by such silliness (which is really a desparate grab at gaining some ground in his already probably defeated campaign) I did get a giggle out of it. It doesn’t worry me much, other than to think that most Americans really might not be able to see through the stupidity. Surely we’re smarter than that!

I never thought I’d see the day that you would get into political comments like this. I though your “practicalreasoning” son would be the one in political office! Maybe I was wrong!
Well I couldn’t resist. Johnny boy just left himself wide open to be blasted with a comment like that – it was almost to stupid to warrant a response. But since I was on my to work at the Evil Empire, I had to comment to keep my sanity.
