It’s been years since I’ve really dived into “jeans fashion” - how they fit, how easy you can move in them, how they wash and wear, and what is considered “stylish”. It has recently come to my attention that jeans have evolved over the last few years or so. Now I have no clue what is considered stylish, which ones actually fit the best, or even which ones wash and wear well. So I am on a search to find the world’s best fitting jeans. About 15 years ago, my daughter and I set out on this same quest – traveling to our local malls and trying on every pair of jeans we could find. At that time the prize went to GAP jeans, with Eddie Bauer coming in a close second. And now, when I think about it, I still have a pair of Guess jeans that have to be at least 15 years old that look and fit as good today as they did then. And I’m wondering why they didn’t make the cut?
I just have 2 simple rules to be applied to my quest: Number 1 – They must cost under $80.00. And number 2 – They must not have rips, tears, or other signs of “age”. Call me old fashion, but I refuse to pay for clothes that look like they’ve already been worn for 10 years. Other than that, let the search begin. Catagories include Best Fit, Best Looking, Best Wash and Wear, and Best Overall Value. Leave your comments about your favorite jeans, why you like them, and where someone else can buy them. Very simple. Let the search begin!
(Future search upcoming….. finding the world’s best mascara!)

OK this is a tough one! I find that Levis brand jeans are the easiest to fit because when your part midget like me, you can buy them by what ever length you need. I’m also a fan of Bandilino jeans. (they are sold at Macys) With my body type I like the trouser jeans I feel they make anyone look slimmer and more polished.
By the way can you even buy a “great” pair of Jeans for under $80.00?
Did you like the picture I took of Robin? She tried on those jeans and I took the picture. She already has a pair! Their Wrangler jeans from Walmart!!! $11.99 plus tax!
“They’re” instead of “their”!!!! Spell checkers!
Good points, Jen! Levi’s have certainly updated their selection lately. And I do like the idea of being able to buy a specific length.
And yes, $80.00 is the limit. But you are right – the price of most jeans I’ve researched have been well over $100. But that exceeds the budget for our little survey – we’re also looking for the “best value”.
Thanks for your input! Check back and see what others have to say on the subject…
Chico’s brand…because their sizes come in 0, 1, 2, 3 and I can wear a 2.
Scottie doesn’t have internet/email so I’ll comment for her. All her jeans come from Goodwill and cost $2.50 a pair. She really gets some good buys there.
Thanks, Kitty! I’ll have to check out the Chico’s, they’re not on my list.
Jeff and I both agree that if you are going to keep it under $80, Banana Republic are the best fit and look the most polished. You can also catch them on sale all the time. The bootcut fit ones are still my favorite.
Lucky’s are also really good. They range from about $75 – $100 depending on the style and cut. Back pocket flaps are really in right now. Unfortunately, the “wear and tear” style is still in also, but you can find Lucky’s that aren’t really worn out.
Hmmm….two more brands not on my list! Excellent, I’ll have to go try on the Banana Republic ones at the mall, but I’m not sure I’ve ever seen the Lucky brand. Where can you find those?
They have Lucky’s Dillards, Macys, and The Buckle. And also the Lucky store – but those are not in every mall.
Will have to check them out, thanks!
I actually like Lee jeans or anything that fits!
We’ve got even more pictures – come check them out.
At chemenn’s site, that is
I own a pair of Banana Republic boot cut jeans which I purchased for under $80. The first 1/2 day you wear them, they’re fabulous!!!!! (FYI: I wear a size 6.) However, they have some stretch and that means by the 2nd half of the day, they’re too big and they begin to fall too low on my hips. Still, until I find a better jean solution, I’ll be going back to BR.
hi, came across the page by chance. can u tell me were those jeans are from in the picture at the top of this page? also anyone no the best place to go to get low rise slim fit jeans iv looked evrywhere for a good pair but all i can find are skinny jeans n high waisted! thanks
Hi Laura,
The jeans at the top were just random pictures taken from Google – no brand was listed. However, Express has some very nice low rise jeans with a slimming fit. They are a top runner in our survey and cost about $60.00. But they’re often times on sale, so you can probably get a new pair for about $40.00.
Banana Republic have been rated very high in our survey as well. I have not personally tried that brand, but have heard good things about them.
Good luck with your search! Keep us posted on your findings!
I’ve tried , tested and liked http://www.Makeyourownjeans.com ,
lots of plain old jeans available, custom made gives you the power to tweak the denim accroding to your size and style,
I always give a low front rise measurement of 7 inches to be made,
all the best ,
good jeans? i usually go to France or London to buy them. some jeans are really good fitting and under the price of 80 bucks. it doesn’t matter what store, just any one that isn’t so expensive.
I haven’t bought jeans in so long. I went out today to the Mall. and bought $79. gap low rise slim fit. Love them.
new look have the nicest skinny flare jeans for only £20and i think they would wash okay and there dark blue they would suit any girl i think.
I took an inventory of my jeans and I have more Gap pairs than anything else. I only wear “trouser jeans” and I guess Gap has the most selection. Plus you can buy them in different lengthes like regular, long, and my favorite ankle. However I did attempt to buy some “skinny jeans” or “slim fit” and I just couldn’t bring myself to do it. I looked like a giant icecream cone!
OK I have another good one. I just bought a pair of Jeans from American Eagle. I hadn’t been in that store since highschool but I decided to try some on. To my surprise I really liked them. They look more like “jeans” and not my normal taylored trouser fit. What I like about them is you can buy them in a short so I don’t have to hem the bottom. They were cheap too, only 30.00 (regular price) for a pair!
my girlfriend is very skinny that is why she likes skinny jeans and tight fitting trousers ~
